Domingue is a decent goalie. He was traded to give him a chance to establish himself as he's still decently young and has the skill to push for a 1B spot. He was never going to get that chance in Tampa as Vasy is clearly the big dog.

I think he's worth a shot for you guys. One thing you can say- the guy plays with heart and is a hell of a battler.

It's not a bad depth move and it's hard to complain about giving up a 7th round pick; BUT exactly why you would want someone with comparable numbers to Blackwood and Schneider when they are part of the problem is a mystery.

Could be an intangibles thing. During "the streak" Dom went on last year (he went like... 10W in a row?) when Vasy was out, even if he was having a bad game he just didn't ever look like he quit. The guy would bend himself backwards even when the save was doubtful.

Like you said, a conditional 7th is fine. If he plays the requisite games...cool... have a 7th Murray. Lord knows he can work magic with late picks. If he doesn't, oh well... no one lost anything and JBB made good on his promise to Dom.

This team is playing better but with the amount of talent on the team they should win some games. It still doesn't mean they are being coached well. We still have a defensive scheme that bleeds goals at an alarming rate. The 5v5 attack looks disorganized and comes down to individual effort more then a good system.

What was impressive last game is they finally had some sustained attack pressure.

It's time for the next chapter and a new coach.

He may not even cost a 7th the way that trade was constructed. A no brainer, low risk move that can only benefit us. Not a blockbuster deal, but a solid move by Shero.

As for Wood, I like him as a wing driving 4th liner. He is very frustrating to watch when playing with skilled, possession/cycling forwards. But with Hayden/Rooney/Simmonds he tends to rise above and create scoring chances as he knows his only option is selfish net-driving plays.

Schneids/P.K/Gusev......It is time to step up. You guys are some of the oldest players on this team and look completed disinterested. If these boys can step up, the team will climb the standings in little time.

I agree but I also want Hall traded too....I want players who want to be here and are committed to turning this club into a championship team. You see the difference in PK who has been here less then a couple of months but has already been all in and always seems to say the "right" stuff even after losses. He's taking leadership of this team while Hall been here almost 3 yrs and still doesn't know what he wants.

And how about Palms!!!! Forgot to mention how pumped I was to see him stick up for our young star. Leafs players simply say "I can't wait for the league to review that hit". Palms went up another notch in my books.

If he brings can land us a true 1RW, and a 1st rd pick, I'd be happy. Shero won't let him pull a Tavares on us. Something will happen.

I can't say I want Hall traded but I can understand why you (and others) are a little soured on him. Problem is top tier players are really hard to come by. Even if we got a very good return on a Hall Trade the probability of getting as impactful a player is really slim.

Cory will not make it through the year without getting injured again. LD should have an opportunity to outplay MB and probably be our #1 goalie at some point this year.

Saying that Hall does not want to be in NJ really discounts what he has been saying throughout his entire time here. He has been incredibly consistent in asserting that he loves NJ, and the way hes been treated. He is a thoughtful guy who is very aware of his situation and surroundings, and above all wants to win, which is exactly the kind of guy you want on your team. For people to be blowing up a comment he made in the context of discussing a number of challenges the team has been facing is really frustrating.

Lines at practice today.

Hall Nico palm
Zacha Hughes Goose
Boqvist Zajac Coleman
Wood Rooney Simmonds.

Not sure how I feel about breaking up the hall line. Preferred to keep Hughes with hall and palm and swap Boqvist and goose.

They were switching Hughes and Nico back and forth so anything could still happen

I'm not sure why you would find a difference of opinion on what Hall's been saying or his intentions frustrating. It doesn't really matter what any of us speculate about it. What matters is how Hall feels about it and that fact that he hasn't signed yet. The rest is noise.

I do think you are right that Hall is a thoughtful guy. I'd expect him to make a decision and let Shero know at some point. If he wants to stay we'll sign him. If he doesn't we'll trade him. We'll see....

I missed that part. Hopefully they didn’t forget the downfall they had game 1 and show up and embarrass them.

On Wood -

It seemed like at the beginning of the season (and most of his career) he would get a pass, use his blazing speed to take it into the zone with a d-man pushing him into the left corner, where he would proceed to take a low snap shot that generated a low percentage scoring chance, but a nice fat rebound off the stick-side pads.

The problem was that he was way too fast for his teammates, and there was no one in the zone yet, so this became a turnover from his zone-entry and there was no sustained pressure. He gets his corsi, but it's really low danger.

The past 2 or 3 games now, I've noticed he skates about 5-10 feet past the blue line, hockey stops, and waits for his teammates to enter the zone, leading to more sustained pressure. I wonder if Hynes/Elias gave him that advice over the long break, because I think that's why he looks like a changed man the past few games.

Hughes and Goose together seems dangerous. This seems better with the same guys. Each rookie is with two defensively responsible players.

exactly. don't be stupid, Hynes.. please. We have a good thing. Why oh why ruin a good thing?? Keep Hughes with Hall/Palms and Nico with Zacha/Gusev or Boqvist. SILLY.

Being from the West Coast, I've had a few opportunities to watch Domingue in action when he was with the Arizona organization.

He's a decent 3rd stringer and would provide a solid option in the AHL in the event of an injury or if one of the top 2 goalies needed a rest. I don't think he's been really given a fair shake at the NHL level, and I think New Jersey is in an ok spot currently to give him some games.

Giving up a 7th rounder is nothing to secure another goalie, and I will keep an eye out for when the Devils give him a shot in net.

Thanks for letting me give my 2 cents, and good luck to the Devils the rest of the way

I agree having Hughes and Gusev together is risky. I hope Zacha likes covering for both of them.

It's beyond stupid. Hughes is doing well where he is.. Zacha is doing well with Hischier.. we have 3 RELIABLE lines now. I can't imagine Hynes maintains the swap.

How did Boqvist play last game? I’m (pleasantly) surprised that Gusev reentering the lineup doesn’t mean he has to sit.

These oddball decisions is part of why I don’t have faith in these coaches.

Hall's agent and Shero meeting this road trip...

Could be good or bad.
